Admissions Procedures for Credit Programs

1. Complete and submit an application for admission with a one-time non-refundable $25 application fee.

2. Submit an official high school transcript or an official transcript of high school equivalency ( e.g. GED, HISET, Career Plus HSE).  Please refer to High School Diploma/GED Requirements section.

3. Official, electronic or sealed college transcripts must be submitted if transfer credit consideration is desired, but submission of college transcripts are not required for admission. Transcripts must be received from the college where the grade was earned.  Exception:  Students who request a HOPE Scholarship evaluation must submit official transcripts from ALL colleges previously attended.  College transcripts may also be required to satisfy financial aid requirements and veteran educational benefits.

4. Submit SAT, PSAT, PACT, ACT, ACCUPLACER, ASSET, COMPASS, GED English and Math earned since 2014, HISET Math, Reading, and Language Arts, Georgia Milestones 9th grade English Language Arts test scores, or High School GPA of 2.0 or higher.  If these scores are not available or do not meet the college's minimum scores, applicants will be required to take the ACCUPLACER placement test. ***Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Technical College System of Georgia colleges have suspended the  ACCUPLACER Next Generation test in certain circumstances. The College is suspending the provisions of the Admission Procedure 6.2.1p that requires student testing and submission of official transcripts for purposes of admission.  The change will be in effect for the Fall (August 2022), Spring (January 2023), and Summer (May 2023) semesters. Dates are subject to change. In the interim, West Georgia Technical College will continue to use reasonable measures to evaluate students' readiness for specific programs that are consistent with the academic standards. Please check the Admission website, or contact an Admissions Counselor for updated information.

5. Applicants may be exempt from placement testing requirements if there is evidence of completion of appropriate college-level English and math courses, or completion of an associate degree. or a higher level degree.

6. Provide documentation of lawful presence and Georgia residency. Applicants must provide proof of lawful presence and Georgia residency for tuition purposes. See the Admission Requirements section of the catalog for additional information. 

7. Applicants to diploma and degree Health Sciences and Nursing programs must complete a competitive selection process prior to admission to the desired program.  Applicants to degree programs are initially admitted to the Healthcare Professional certificate program to take core courses. However, Health Care Management degree is also an option. Applicants should contact the Admission and Financial Aid Office for additional information. Applicants to diploma level programs are initially admitted to the Healthcare Assistant certificate program to take core courses. Please refer to the Additional Procedures for Diploma and Associate Degree Level Health Sciences and Nursing Programs section of this catalog for more information. Non-Georgia residents will be considered in the competitive selection process on a space available basis, but will not be included if there are enough qualified applicants who are residents of the State.
